Costa Rica - 2022 - The adventure of a lifetime!

One of the themes of our trip was YOLO (you only live once) which we learned from Emmy. And boy did we live up to that one!

One of the first activities we planned to do was ziplining. You can't research activities in Costa Rica without ziplining coming up first. Everyone knows I am not only scared of heights but terrified of falling so I was really just agreeing to it because everyone else wanted to and I figured why not try something when on vacation? YOLO! We knew it would be in the trees and there were a few lines but we figured they'd be as high and long as a power line. That's pretty doable.

Well.... we arrived early to make sure there was a guide available to go with Owie and the second we got out of the car we heard a loud whiz as someone went flying 275 feet above us. What the hell?! We all looked up at the line above us and immediately Ryan and I said no way, we are out.

While we waited for our time (Ryan and I assumed we'd be watching from the restaurant) we ate lunch and continued to watch people zip by. And then it rained - HARD. Ryan started getting super nervous and I was equally as terrified but kept my cool. It wasn't until Ryan spotted a go-pro rental that he was convinced to go. So we suited up and took the tram, up, up, up, to the top. I thought it would never end! We saw howler monkeys and a toucan  - it was so cool! The rain stopped just as we got off. It was beautiful. But holy shit we were so HIGH!

The next 15 minutes were a blur as we got ready to go, Ryan panicking, me panicking, Emmy and Josh giving us a hard time, and my heart beating. Oh, and Owen! The kid is 5 and was about to jump off a platform and zip line 656 FEET IN THE AIR going 45 MILES PER HOUR. Fortunately, Ryan got the entire thing on his damn go-pro. AHAHA. Emmy went first - no problem. Josh went second as his hands shaked like I've never seen before (he said if he has his phone with him, he would have texted me when he got to the other side and told me not to do it). Owen said "bye mommy" and jumped off with a guide. Ryan, knees shaking went with a guide too. And that left me - I've never done something more terrifying and exhilarating in my entire life. And we did it as a family! It was hands down one of the highlights of the trip!

Let's GO!

From the tram

Good thing you can see our knees shaking!

The first line was 200 meters high (656 feet), 465 meters long (1522 feet) and went 70 kms per hour!

This was the end of the line that went over the parking lot. It was the easiest one of the bunch!

What an experience! One I don't think we will ever forget.
