This weekend was one of those that remind you why we pay so much to live here. It was 80 degrees and sunny all weekend long. We took advantage of the weather and spent a lot of time outdoors.
Saturday we went to the zoo, along with the rest of Southern California.....
Checking out the giraffs with Daddy
We bought Emmy her first pair of flip flops! She's been trying to put ours on so we thought we'd buy her a pair of her own. We weren't too sure how she'd be wearing them but they were too cute to pass up. I guess we shouldn't be surprised, she loved them and pranced around the house, having no trouble walking at all. A true California girl!
We really stepped up the blow up pool this year! I think we are really going to enjoy the backyard this summer.
We ended the weekend by bbqing some veggie burgers for dinner. Emmy ate almost a whole burger and bun, I am not even exaggerating...

Ride 'em cowboy!
Emmy has figured out how to ride her pony herself and loves it! Something to keep her amused for a few minutes anyway. Yes, those are her pants on her head, she is still really into wearing hats, or I guess I should say things on her head :) Yesterday morning she decided she wanted to wear her bib around the house. She refuses to wear it when she eats but apparently she thought it made a great accessory. She kept in on after I got her dressed for daycare and wore it the whole car ride. Fortunately, I was able to slyly take it off as I was getting her out of the car. I think we are really going to be in for it when she learns how to dress herself. Rubber boots, sundresses and winter hats, here we come!

13 Months...
And we already have an artist on our hands! Yesterday I brought home a ton of artwork Emmy has been working on the past few weeks at daycare. They have so many activities organized she is exhausted by the end of the day. Apparently her favorites are: dancing to the music, books and playing in the little playhouse outside. The last few weeks so cried when I dropped her off, it broke my heart but I know she is fine after I leave. Yesterday was the first day she did not cry. This morning she ran over to one of her teachers and gave her a hug and a kiss and looked back like "later mom!". It makes me so happy to see how much fun she is having and all she is learning.

Box
Today I worked from home and it was one of "those days". Let's just give you a glimpse by telling you I had to clean poop out of the tub for the second time this week... Emmy would not stop trying to climb into our laundry basket that is whicker and nowhere near wide enough for a human being to climb into so I pulled a box out of the garage for her to play with. I thought she'd have a blast but it lasted for about 10 minutes. I left the room and when I came back I found her in this...
When she could have been playing in this...
She is definitely developing a personality these days. She continues to love her hats and her new thing is a plastic lawn chair we bought her. I mean how can you not laugh at how ridiculous she looks in her Santa jammies and a winter hat?! She was full of beans tonight!

Congratulations!
To my hubby who was awarded District Manager of the year for his division in Southern California. He works his ass off and wakes up earlier than any of us can imagine. I am so proud of him. It is 9pm and he is already asleep on the couch so I am celebrating for him :)

Bath Time
One of Emmy's favorite things to do is take a bath. You just tell her it is bath time and she trots to the bathroom, right to the tub. She is fearless in the water, nothing seems to bother her. She has now figured out how to squirt her bath toys. She squirts them at her face and just laughs. We were having so much fun tonight until she got a little too comfortable and pooped in the tub. Kids could have gone trick-or-treating in the tub, there were so many little "chocolate bars" in there - disgusting!!!
Is she proud of her teeth or what?!

Word of the Week - "Don't"
Most kids first words consist of animals, body parts, colors, etc. No, our child has mastered the word "don't". The funniest part is she puckers her lips each times she says it and pronunciates it so clearly. The other night I was up with her during her nightly wakenings changing her diaper as she screamed. Then all of a sudden she stopped and clear as day say "don't". She says it when she knows she is doing something she is not supposed to. It is pretty hard to keep a straight face. I am trying to teach her "yes" since she has been saying "no" and "don't" quite a bit :)
Other updates.... her favorite food is currently grilled zucchini. She acts as if we are feeding her chocolate or something. She is also really into hummus and pita. Last night she ate a half of a pita with hummus, an entire zucchini and a good portion of turkey meat loaf. Not too shabby! The kid can eat anything we give her because she almost has all the teeth a little kid will get. She is working on her eye teeth and once those are in she will have a full grill. Are you kidding me, that is ridiculous!

How did we spend 3 rainy days inside with a sick baby?
We got creative and kept ourselves entertained!
She is really into the playhouse at daycare right now. Josh picked her up last week and she walked him over to it while she walked in and out. So, we decided to build her a fort and she loves it! I have a feeling 2 of our kitchen chairs will be in the family room for a while.
(Yes, those are her Christmas pjs. Isn't everyday Christmas with her? :)
We colored with crayons. Day #1 went well she was doing a good job drawing on the paper I taped on the sliding glass doors. Day #2 resulted in some green crayons stuck between her bottom teeth.
We dressed up in my jewelry. I am training her to love jewelry early :)
The best?! Finger painting with pudding.
Hmm, this is interesting.....
Mmmmm, this stuff tastes good too!!
Whoa, this is fun!

Daily Spill
Emmy is a steady walker considering she only took her first steps a little over a month ago. However, she has become completely over confident and is pretty much taking a good bruise-creating fall a day. She tries to run away from us, walks way too quickly and looks over her shoulder as she walks away. All recipe for disaster. Her first big fall was at daycare. You all saw the scrapes on her face during her b-day party. Last weekend she fell while holding onto a golf ball. So, pretty much it was as if we threw one at her head. Her forehead turned blue and swelled up like an egg almost immediately. It was pretty scary. Fortunately the bruise is almost gone only to be replaced by a new one. Today she fell into the corner of the coffee table. Lovely.
Yesterday was her 12 month appt and it was a complete and utter nightmare. First of all who makes an appt at 4p on a Friday?! The poor kid has been really sick all week with a horrible cough and snot like I've never seen before. I mean I was literally sucking it out every hour. While waiting over a 1/2 to even get called from the waiting room I let her roam the halls outside the office. Bad idea. She took a nose dive right before we were called she had a bloody, swollen nose before we even saw the doctor. She is so beat up we must look questionable. Obviously the doctor says it is normal but seriously these daily spills are getting ridiculous!
So, she is 19lbs, 4oz, and 29 inches tall. She is definitely slimming down because she NEVER STOPS WALKING. I guess wasn't quite ready for her BMW car seat - oops. We had to delay most of the 12 month shots because she was so sick but had to do some blood test that required the nurse to squeeze a vile worth of blood from her finger. It takes over 5 minutes for both Josh and I to pin her down to cut just one finger nail so you can imagine the screams that were coming from our room....
We're supposed to get rain all weekend so we'll be inside the next few days to hopefully let Emmy get better and to stay dry. She is so stimulated at daycare now she seems bored at home. I headed over to Michaels this morning to get some "activities" to keep us all occupied. Stay tuned for some interesting pics :)

Dress Up
Emmy is a still young but it sure seems as though she is getting into dressing up! Her new thing is wearing hats. She'll find one and either try and put it on herself or bring it to me to put on. She also loves one of her fleece hooded sweatshirts that she has decided to wear like a cape. Fast forward a few years and she is totally going to be that kid her cruises out of her room in rubber boots, a sundress and a winter hat because that is what she wants to wear to school that day. Ha!
Her favorite hat from Nannie. Doesn't she look comfy in her new shopping cart?
Super Emmy!

Leaps and Bounds
It is amazing how quickly Emmy is learning and growing. I swear she does a new amazing thing everyday! This past weekend the whole fam damily came down for a visit to celebrate her belated b-day. It rained all day Saturday so we were pretty cooped up all day but enjoyed just hanging out. Watching her Sunday after everyone left I realized how much more she learned while they were here. She is a GENIUS!
- She now prefers to drink out of a "big girl cup"
- She used to point at everything now she points at what she wants which is usually a glass of water. Out of a big girl cup of course :)
- She now knows a cow says "moo" and sheep says "baa" and a monkey says, well, I don't know how to spell what a monkey says. There are days when she thinks all animals sound like a cow or a monkey but we're getting there :)
- My sister let her play with her sunglasses. I saved Emmy from ruining Julie's shades by giving her, her own glasses to play with. Last night she walked around the house trying to put them on her face herself
- Before dinner I told Emmy that we were going to put her jammies on and she walked to her room and picked up a pair that was on the floor.
- She was giving her "baby" a hug and patting her back as I do with her - too cute
- My mom knit her 2 of the cutest hats for her b-day. She put it on and we all said "oh so pretty" and she smiled and pranced around. She wore that hat all day long.
- When I get her undressed for her bath she is usually half hanging in the tub so I undress her right then and there. She lifts each leg up and out of her pants, it is so cute.
- She totally understands the word "no" she shakes her head when I say it. She also shakes it whenever I try to get her to drink milk and of course as she is pushing all the buttons on the DVD player....
