Birthday party, during a long weekend, with a special visitor

I LOVE 3 day weekends!  Even better are long weekends when my brother is in town and we get to throw an early bday party for Emmy!  My brother was in LA for work so came down Friday.  I took the afternoon off and we got lunch from a taco stand and walked the beach.  It was a perfect day and I don't remember the last time we got to hang out that long without any kiddos around.  It was awesome!  Ryan was immediately glued to Marc following him around everywhere calling his name.  The were super cute.  Saturday we had a party for Emmy at a pottery/candle making place.  It was a bit of a zoo but everyone had a blast.  The kids got to paint, make candles and run around out front while the parents drank beers and ate.  We hung out Sunday and did some gardening today.  Great weekend, I don't want it to end.  But i guess i never do.  Next weekend is Emmy's family birthday party!!!

Our walk on the beach.  Not sure what else I can do to convince him to move to San Diego?!

18 months!

My little buddy is 18 months.  Where did the time go?  Thank God he is such a snuggler, otherwise I think I’d be having a really hard time seeing him grow up so fast.  Today he weighed in at 28 lbs and 32"tall.  Although, I am not sure how accurate that is given he screamed and cried so much we had to pin him down just to get his length.  Poor little guy was terrified.  It was a nightmare.

At 18 months our big boy is:

Running.  I call him twinkle toes because he runs on his toes and you can tell he wants to go faster than his little legs will let him

Still not sleeping though the night.  Ugh.  He is usually up 2-3 times a night.  We either pat his back, rock him to sleep or bring him in our bed where he proceeds to lay on top of me the rest of the night.  Every morning I try and figure out what must be waking him.  Let’s be honest here, would you rather lay on a flat, cold crib mattress, or in our big, warm bed in my arms.  I know, I know, I’ve answered my own question.  And yes, I realize we better be prepared to have him sleeping in our bed for the next few years.

A crazy snacker.  As long as we are at home, he is snacking.  Yells “nack” and wants in the fridge or cupboard constantly.  It drives me nuts!

Really into throwing things.  This kid has an arm.  He can chuck a ball across the room.  Not so convenient when it is a fork at the dinner table or a metal flashlight at Emmy’s head.

Obsessed with dogs.  Our house in on a bill so we can see down into our neighbors yard and they have a dog.  At least 75 times a day Ryan wants up so he can see the dog.

Attached to Emmy.  She is his everything.  He wants to be with her all the time and loves snuggling with her.  The two of them have a long drawn out goodbye every morning when she is dropped off in her classroom.  He will grab her hand when they are walking down the street.  It is the sweetest thing ever.  And reciprocated.  Emmy was talking about getting married one day.  I said who are you going to marry? Her answer was brother.  I told her that wasn’t possible and she didn’t understand why.

Still really into Elmo or “Melmo” as he says.  He will bring me the remote “Melmo?”.

In love with my dad!  Anytime he sees my phone he says “papa?”.  So we either call him or I show him pictures on my phone.  He smiles and then gets upset when I put it down.

A really good wrestler.  He tackles Josh and Emmy like he is 8 times his own size!

A total mama’s boy.  He cries when I leave the room, freaks out if I go upstairs and whines my name in the middle of the night.  I hate to admit it, but I love it!

Very stubborn.  He knows what he wants, when he wants it and has already started throwing tantrums.  Awesome.

Obsessed with brushing his teeth and washing his hands.  Great hygiene!

Is full of personality and expression.  He is so funny these days with his facial expressions.  You can’t help but laugh and want to play with him.

These past 18 months have been the craziest, busiest and best of my life!  I love my little buddy so much!

Seeing them snuggle together never gets old

Winter Weekend

Another fun weekend flew by.  Emmy and all her buddies in her class all have birthday's within weeks of each other, it is crazy.  This weekend was the first of the next 5 straight weekends of bday parties and probably the best one!  Van had a snow day at his house.  The kids have been talking about it for weeks.  They turned their driveway into a sled run and front lawn a snowball fight.  There were tons of people and kids, it was a blast.  You know you live in San Diego when you go to Target in February looking for gloves and the store is full of snorkels and beach chairs.  Today we went to see frozen with Finn and Anne (for the second time). Emmy is obsessed with the movie!  Next weekend - Emmy's party!

Life is Good

There are days and weeks that go by when things are crazy and everything seems to be a little more difficult than they should be.  I bitch, complain, get frustrated and sometimes wish things were different.  Then I hear stories, read articles, talk to different people and I feel guilty for ever having those thoughts.  Life is good!  Things are great!  I am extremely lucky and grateful for all I have and I try to remind myself of that all of the time.
I have two beautiful, amazing, loving kids who have made me a mom and taught me more than I ever could have imagined.  Becoming a mom is truly a miracle.  My kids are healthy and happy nothing is more important than that.  They go to an awesome school that they love.  Ryan actually cries when we leave sometimes.  I love them to bits and cherish every second I get to spend with them.  I never stop wishing I could spend more time with them but when I am with them I try and cherish every moment.  My house is dirty and a mess and we always have piles of laundry to do but before I know it my kids won’t want to have dance parties with me anymore or play school and hide and go seek.
I have a loving husband who is my best friend and partner who is extremely supportive of me and our family.
I have the best family ever!  My parents are forever supportive and I have the coolest sibs who live in other parts of the country living their dreams!  I miss them all the time but am so proud of them.  I have to thank Apple for helping us stay connected.
I have a great job.  Yes, I work 40 hours but wished I worked 20 and I miss my kids all the time but this is the way it is right now.  I am lucky.  I have a good schedule, work in an office full of wonderful people who understand the juggle I face every week.  I also so happen to sit 3 feet from one of my best friends :)  I work for a hospital who heals people, something I’ve wanted to be a part of for many, many years. It isn’t perfect but it could be a whole lot worse.

I live in beautiful San Diego.  This is something that is easy to lose sight of but is important not too.  We live less than 6 miles from the beach, where it is on average 70 degrees almost every day of the year and there are endless beautiful places to go!
We own our home.  There were years I never thought I’d say that.  It was a dream but we were always very realistic and never put pressure on ourselves.  I still can’t believe we made it happen.  We saved, waited, saved and waited some more and things just fell into place.  I love our house and seriously still can’t believe it is ours.
ME AND MY FAMILY ARE HEALTHY.  I just don’t think it gets any better than that.  Enough said.  Life is good.

Nothing is sweeter than watching my two kids dance together :)

Weekend with Nana and Papa

My mom and dad came down this weekend and we had a great time!  Ryan ran around after his buddy Lucy, Josh and I actually got to go out to dinner and me, Emmy and my mom went to Disney on Ice!  We had lots of fun.

School

Emmy is having an amazing school year.  I am so happy she was able to get into her pre-K class.  There are only 8 kids in her class, her teacher is great and they are learning so much it is crazy!  She has gone to school with these same kids since she was months old, they are like family!  She comes home each day with her work sheets and 2-3 days a week has homework.  She is reading, writing, learning addition and subtraction, fractions, etc.  She can read about 50 different words, is learning a lot of Spanish, how to count money, read time from a clock count to 100 in 5s and 10s, knows both mine and Josh’s phone numbers by heart and her drawings are amazing!  They take field trips almost weekly, cook together weekly, have a music class, science experiments, have visitors from the community come into their class room and she is learning all about the environment.  A few weeks ago she told me we should really buy an electric car because our car uses gas that goes into the environment and makes the earth hot.  What?!  She also told me that when someone says something and you didn’t hear them the polite thing to say is pardon me?  We no longer can spell out words like the park because she can sound them out.  Damn.  She is having so much fun, I just love seeing her so happy.

Gotta love the cheesy backdrop and props!

4 day weekend!

We had the best 4 day weekend ever.  I swear I'd be a completely different person if I had more than 48 hours a week to do what I need and want to do.  Never giving up my hopes of a part time schedule....  Anyway, we had a great weekend!   I took Friday off of work so I could go on Emmy's school trip to the aquarium.  Then I convinced her to play hookie with me the rest of the afternoon.  We went to lunch, the park and to got ice cream all before we picked up Ryan!  Saturday we went to a dinosaur show that was in town for the weekend then to friends for dinner.  Sunday was hair cuts and Monday we went to Sea World!  I had to much fun with the kids, it was the best :)
