6 month appt
Weighing in at 16 lbs 8 oz and measuring 26 1/4", Emery is considered completely average size for her age. She was such a brave girl, she didn't even cry after her shots! She was most fussy when they tried to give her the oral vaccine, she refused to open her mouth, just like when she eats. It was pretty funny :) She already peeled off the band-aids and tried to put them in her mouth. EVERYTHING goes in her mouth these days. We can see a tooth about ready to pop through her gums. Will post a picture when we can see it.
I hopped on the scale as well and have 2 pounds to go to be back at my pre-pregnancy weight, not that I have really been trying. It is amazing how I am pretty much the same weight but my body is completely different!

Fun New Toys
Josh, Emmy and I are on a little vacation. Her daycare was closed for 4 days so we decided to take the time off of work and enjoy some much needed time together. We headed up to my parents house to house sit while they are in Chicago visiting my sister. While we were here, we bought Emmy a few new toys.
She loves this play gym! It is so cute to see her standing on her little toes and turn herself around and round playing with each activity. This is going to be a lifesaver when I am trying to work :)
Such concentration
Finally a highchair! You can tell she feels like such a big girl in it. She still refuses to eat and won't open her mouth. She is so stubborn you can tell she wants to smile but just bites her lips so they won't open. It is frustrating and so cute all at the same time!
I am such a big girl in my highchair!

What a beauty!
Another Hip Update....
Well, I wish I had better news. We spent 2 hours at the hospital last week to spend 30 seconds with the doctor who told us her hips looked better but weren't "perfect" so she wants us to continue with the harness for another 2 months. She never reviewed the x-rays with us just told us her Acetabular angle is 30 degrees when it should be 25. Very strange considering the previous doctor we went to said that 30 was considered normal. The link below is to a graph that lays out what is normal for each age. As you can see 30 is basically on the border of normal and mild.

AND we have to buy a new harness which happens to be the brand this particular doctor owns. She seemed pretty pissed we had the "other" brand. Sounds a little fishy to me.... Now we have to wait for our insurance to approve us getting another harness, I am really hoping it doesn't get approved!

6 months old!
I can't believe how fast our baby girl is growing up! We celebrated her "half birthday" by going to the park, taking a walk and then cooling off in the pool. We also attempted to make and feed Emery sweet potatoes. I think they turned out okay (they were yellow though?) but she still would not eat them. Now she won't even open her mouth! Oh no, stubborn already....
The biggest news of the weekend is that she started saying "da da", Josh was ecstatic. I am still trying to get it on video, stay tuned...
All dried off!

Met her match
Emmy hung out with her new friends Roman and Lola today and I have to say I think she has finally met her match. Roman could not be cuter and chubbier! He made Emmy look slim! I think she had the most fun with Lola who is so sweet and loving towards her brother and Emmy. Lola dressed in her princess outfit, did a few performances for us and just wanted to hold Emmy on the couch. It was too cute. Everyday I say Emmy is growing up too fast and I just want her to stay this little forever. Seeing Lola today reminded me of all the fun times we have to come as she grows into a little girl, I mean princess :)
We are definitely getting one of these bouncers, she loved it!
Roman (4 months) Emery (6 months) don't you just want to eat all those cheeks?!

Another new voice
This one is ridiculous! She screeched liked this for probably 10 minutes. Hopefully it is just a phase...
You may want to turn down the volume before playing!
We've had some fun dinner plans this week. Josh went to the baseball game last night so Anne and Finn came over for dinner and a few glasses of wine. Tonight the Baldwin Academy had a family BBQ at the bay. It was nice to go and meet some other parents and hang out with the teachers. They all love Emery, how could you not?!
No surprise, they don't look too amused. At least they had the same toy so they didn't have to share :)
What a cutie

Too Strong for Her Own Good
Emery's strength continues to amaze me! Her newest thing is pulling herself up on the bouncy chair bar. Well, it isn't really a bar more like an arch that the toys hang from, definitely not safe! We watched her pull herself up out of her seat and then try and roll out. It was not something we should've been encouraging but it was too funny not to watch :) Yes, we are going to get a high chair this week, hopefully that will hold her down for a little while.

Kisses
I know she is young but I swear Emmy knows how to give kisses. She loves to grab your face, pull it close and slobber all over your cheeks. It is the best!
I love my Emmy kisses :)

Eating time
This morning I gave Emmy Oatmeal for the first time. As you can see from the picture below, I don't think any of it got in her mouth. She is now grabbing for the spoon and wiping her mouth with her hands so it is quite a mess. Anyone have any tips on to how to properly get a baby to start eating?! Veggies or fruit first?! I have heard from some people it is best to start with veggies (the orange ones) and other say fruit is fine. And is it true you shouldn't make your own carrots? Yes, you heard it I am going to attempt to make homemade food. A little ambitious with my schedule - absolutely, but I think it can be done.
Our mornings sure have gotten interesting now that I am trying to feed her breakfast. I was pretty frassled getting out the door this morning and to top off the morning I locked my keys in the car outside her daycare! Thank God I had already taken her out of the carseat before I stupidly shut the door to get a toy that fell to the ground. Fortuantely, Josh was near by too or I could have been really stuck. I have to say I felt pretty stupid running in to daycare and asking to use the phone!
Gross - half eaten oatmeal
Um, I think it is time for a highchair...

Another Little Friend
Anna and Mark came over today with their beautiful 5 day old baby girl Ava Grace. Emmy is so lucky to have another friend! I have a feeling we are all going to have a lot of fun together in the years to come.
Little Miss Ava
Was Emery really that small at one time?!
Just Another Day in the Park
We headed up to Kate Sessions Park this weekend. It has the most beautiful view of the ocean and Josh was excited to find out they allow alcohol so he could have a few beers! Emmy has put her feet on the grass before but actually sat in it for the first time. She was so cute as she delicately touched each strand with her little fingers.
Look at those legs! Yes, those are knee rolls :)

Pool Party!
Anne and Finn came over today to stay cool in our new little blow-up pool. It was the perfect size for the 2 of them. I have a feeling they'll be in that pool at lot the rest of the summer :)
Sitting Pretty
Emmy is pretty much sitting on her own now. Well, I have to sit right next to her at all times because she gets a little over confident when she reaches for some of her toys! You can tell she is so proud when she sits up and throws her toys around. I think the harness actually helped her by forcing her to keep her back straight. On that note, we made the executive decision to only put her in the harness at night. We were supposed to go a follow-up appt last week but ran into an annoying insurance issue. Josh's work changed insurance companies so not only is her Pediatrician no longer covered we had to get another referral to go back to the Orthopedic doctor we've already been going to. Good old HMO plan.... Anyway, I am pretty sure the harness is too small and since we may not be able to go for the follow-up appt for another month we are limiting her time. Hopefully she will be out of the damn thing once and for all soon!
The fam :)

Video Chat
I can't believe how technologically advanced our 5 month old daughter is. Last night we video chatted simultaneously with my parents in LA and my sister who just moved to Chicago. Julie gave us a virtual tour of her new apartment and everyone loved being able to see Emmy chat away. It was great and so easy!
